Lyle Arnold Berman (born August 6, 1941 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ) is a professional American poker player and entrepreneur . He is three-time bracelet winner of the World Series of Poker .

Businessman

Berman grew up in Minnesota and studied at the University of Minnesota . In 1964 he received a degree in business administration. He first worked as a business economist in a leather factory that belonged to his father. After the sale, Berman ran a restaurant for six years. In early 1990, his investments focused on casino businesses . Berman was a co-founder of Grand Casinos Inc. , which built casinos on the outskirts of Las Vegas and Atlantic City . He became the managing director of these so-called Indian casinos . Because of his work, the B'nai B'rith received the Great American Traditions Award in 1995 and the Gaming Executive of the Year Award in 1996 .

Poker player

Career

In 2005, Berman finished fifth at the National Heads-Up Poker Championship at the Golden Nugget Las Vegas . He lost to eventual winner Phil Hellmuth . Regarding the book Positively Fifth Street by James McManus , he sponsored TJ Cloutier numerous poker tournaments , including a. the Main Event of the World Series of Poker 2000 . Doyle Brunson called Berman one of the players he most respected. His son Brad Berman also plays poker and eliminated Brunson in the 2004 World Series of Poker Main Event .

Berman secured a total of three bracelets at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas in 1989 , 1992 and 1994 . Although he cash games preferred high-stakes, winning poker tournaments more than 2.5 million US dollars . In 2002 he was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame . Berman lives in Plymouth and has four children.

He co-wrote the book I'm All In: Lyle Berman and the Birth of the World Poker Tour with Marvin Karlins . It includes autobiographical elements from his childhood, his business ideas, his thoughts on poker and Las Vegas, as well as his experience of creating the World Poker Tour and what it is today.
