Mailar is a district of the city of Schmallenberg in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The village is around 4 km northwest of Bad Fredeburg . The federal highway 511 runs through the village and flows the Leiße .

history

On April 23, 1365 Heydenrich van Heyghen , Franken's son, Knappe, and his brothers Johan, Franke and Herman sold the 6th part of the tithe to Oytberdynchusen ( Obringhausen , municipality of Wormbach) with accessories and a narrow tithe to Rotgher van Oysterndorpe , Knappe and the third part of the tithe to Meggheler (Mailar, Gem. Dorlar) for a total of 41 marks. The van Heyghen ( Heggen ) family was based in what is now Finnentrop .

In 1374 the ancient Schulten Hof in Mailar was first mentioned. In 1536, the taxable population of Mailar was recorded by name in the treasury register. In 1645 Mehler was mapped on the Westphalia Ducatus map.

The village belonged to the municipality of Berghausen until the local government reform . Mailar has been part of the extended town of Schmallenberg since January 1st, 1975.

Manor Mailar

The small manor Mailar was established in 1551 when Simon Schade, the youngest son of Simon Schade zu Mülsborn , settled in the village. Simon Schade zu Mülsborn and his wife Margarete had previously united the two desolate farms in Mailar. The manor was formed by merging the Gerken Hof and the Hessen Hof.

There is a chapel in the center of Mailar. It was built in the 17th century and is dedicated to St. Nicholas.
