Malá Morávka (German Klein Mohrau ) is a municipality with 734 inhabitants (January 1, 2004) in the Czech Republic . It extends twelve kilometers northwest of Bruntál at the foot of the Jeseníky Mountains . The village lies on the upper reaches of the Mohra at the confluence of the Bělokamenný potok .

history

The place emerged during the settlement phase at the end of the 13th and beginning of the 14th century. It was first mentioned in a document in 1524. There were rich iron ore deposits in the area around Klein Mohrau . In addition to mining, processing companies such as hammer mills also settled , and the wood from the forests of the Jeseníky Mountains was processed into charcoal in kilns. In Klein Mohrau there were three hammer mills, the upper hammer in today's house No. 75 and the lower and middle hammer, and several wire mills of the Weiß brothers were built. In 1832 Johann Clemens Weiß built a paper factory and in 1856 the iron goods factory (for chains, wires and pens) was built by Franz Olbrich.

On December 1, 1930, the community of Klein Mohrau had 1255 inhabitants, on May 17, 1939 there were 1202 and on May 22, 1947 493 inhabitants.

Until 1918 part of Austrian Silesia , the place became part of Czechoslovakia after the First World War. After the Munich Agreement in 1938, it was added to the German Reich and until 1945 belonged to the Freudenthal district .

The German-speaking population was expropriated and expelled in 1945.

Today the place is a recreation center in the Czech Republic. The district of Karlov pod Pradědem is particularly popular with skiers in winter because of its four downhill slopes.
