Manuel Domínguez Sánchez

Manuel Domínguez Sánchez (* 1840 in Madrid , † 1906 in Cuenca ) was a Spanish painter and illustrator.

Domínguez Sánchez studied at the Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid and continued his education in Rome from 1864. His early works such as La surrección de la hija de Jairo were under the influence of the Nazarenes . For Margarita ante el espejo , a portrait of the literary figure from Goethe's Faust , he received the Tercera Medalla at the Exposicion Nacional de Bellas Artes in 1868 , and in 1871 La muerte de Séneca was awarded the First Prize.

As a history painter, he later turned to decorative picture cycles. A work of this kind, created in collaboration with Alejandro Ferrant y Fischermans , can be found in the Basilica of San Francisco el Grande in Madrid. In the possession of the Museo del Prado are next to Margarita ante el espejo u. a. Un episodio de la vida de san Francisco de Asís , also in collaboration with Ferrant, and Dominguez's own painting with the same title.
