Marc Fortier (born February 26, 1966 in Sherbrooke , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and current coach. During his active career between 1983 and 2005 he played for the Québec Nordiques , Ottawa Senators and Los Angeles Kings in the National Hockey League and the Eisbären Berlin and Frankfurt Lions in the German Ice Hockey League .

Career

As a player

Fortier began his career in 1983 in the Canadian Junior League Québec Major Junior Hockey League , where he was under contract with the Chicoutimi Saguenéens . There the center was one of the best offensive players in the league. In his first season he scored 46 points in 64 games. He was able to further expand this point yield in the following years. His best season in the jersey of the Saguenéens was also his last. In the 1986/87 season he scored 201 points in 65 games. Despite the good performance Fortier was never a franchise of the National Hockey League drafted .

In the summer of 1987 he signed a contract with the Québec Nordiques from the National Hockey League. However, those responsible for the Nordiques initially used the right-handed shooter with their farm team at the time , the Fredericton Express , in the American Hockey League . Only in his second season could the Canadian establish himself with the Québec Nordiques. In the 1987/88 season he was used 57 times in the NHL and scored 39 points. In the following years Fortier played in both the NHL and the AHL. Since the final breakthrough failed to materialize with the Nordiques, he joined the Ottawa Senators for the 1992/93 season . In the two seasons in Ottawa , however, he only wore the Senator's jersey ten times and instead mostly went on the ice for the then farm teams in the International Hockey League and the American Hockey League.

Fortier completed four games for Team Canada in the 1994/95 season , but was not nominated for the 1995 Ice Hockey World Championship . In the four games he played, he was able to score one goal and three assists .

During the same season he moved to Europe to Zurich SC in the Swiss National League A . Three years later he left Switzerland again and went to Germany, where those responsible for the Berlin polar bears signed him up. As a result, he was one of the top strikers and top performers among the polar bears. In addition to the personal results, he was also able to celebrate successes with his new team. He achieved second place with the Berliners in 1997 and 1999 at the IIHF Continental Cup and in 1999 third place in the European Hockey League . There was a commitment to league rivals Frankfurt Lions in the 2002/03 season and in the seasons 2003/04 and 2004/05 when HC Ajoie in the second highest Swiss Hockey League, the National League B . In the summer of 2005, Fortier ended his active ice hockey career at the age of 39.

As a trainer

After Fortier finished his ice hockey career, he decided to work as a coach. Already at the end of May 2005 he was behind the gang at the CRS Express de Saint-Georges from the Canadian professional league Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey .
