The IIHF Continental Cup in 1997 was the first edition of the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF discharged competition . The final round was held from December 26th to 28th, 1997 in Tampere , Finland .

One final round participant was set, the hosting club Ilves Tampere . The three other finalists were determined in three qualifying rounds.

Attendees

A total of 42 teams from 26 nations took part.

First round

The first round matches were played at five venues between September 19 and 21, 1997. The five tournament winners qualified for the second round.

Group A games took place in Székesfehérvár , Hungary . The host team, Alba Volán Székesfehérvár , prevailed with two wins.

final

The finals of the IIHF Continental Cup took place from 26 to 28 December 1997, the Finnish Tampere instead. With two wins and one draw, the Slovak first division team TJ VSŽ Košice prevailed against the competition and was the first ever winner of the Continental Cup.
