The European Ice Hockey Cup in the 1984/85 season was the 20th edition of the competition of the same name by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF . The competition began in October 1984; the final was played in September 1985. A total of 20 teams took part. The CSKA Moscow defended the title for the seventh time in a row.

Mode and participants

The national champions of the game year 1983/84 of the European members of the IIHF were qualified for the competition. The competition was played in the knockout system in a two-legged manner. The final was played in a group of five in the mode everyone-against-everyone.

2nd round

The second round games were played in November 1984. The five winners of the first round and the five seeded participants - VEU Feldkirch, Tappara Tampere, IL Sparta Sarpsborg, Polonia Bytom and HC Bozen - played the five qualifiers for the third round. 3rd round

The third round games were played between December 1984 and February 1985. The five winners of the second round and the five seeded participants - SC Dynamo Berlin, Cologne EC, AIK Stockholm, ASD Dukla Jihlava and the defending champion ZSKA Moscow - played the five qualifiers for the final tournament.
