He then switched to the youth teams of BSG Motor Quedlinburg (today Quedlinburger SV 04 ), BSG Stahl Thale and Halleschen FC Chemie , where he also made his debut in the men's team. After he moved two more times within Saxony-Anhalt (first to FC Anhalt Dessau , then to FSV Lok Altmark Stendal , both in the Oberliga Nordost ), he joined SC Verl in 1995 . From there in 1997 he made the leap into professional football to Eintracht Frankfurt .

In Frankfurt, Gebhardt became an instant regulars and increased with the concord in the first season in the Bundesliga on. However, after the team was relegated to the second Bundesliga in 2001 and Gebhardt was unable to maintain his regular place in the following season, he moved back to Energie Cottbus in the Bundesliga. But also with the Cottbus team, he was relegated again in 2003 and left the club in 2004 after missing promotion to Munich to TSV 1860 . In 1860, Gebhardt only just missed promotion to the first division in the following year. But when the financial situation of the sixties became too threatening in the following season , he moved to the Regionalliga Süd for 1. FC Saarbrücken .

After a one-year stint in Saarbrücken, Gebhardt moved to the Regionalliga Nord for 1. FC Union Berlin at the beginning of the 2007/08 season . With the “Iron” he qualified in 2008 for the newly created third professional league , before the team was able to celebrate promotion to the second division in the following season. Gebhardt was one of the top performers. At the beginning of the 2009/10 season he was captain of Union Berlin, but was no longer used regularly in the further course of the season. After he was able to keep the class with Union, his contract was finally no longer renewed. He then moved to SV Germania 90 Schöneiche , where he ended his playing career in 2011 after one season.

In the national team

Gebhardt also played three A2 / B internationals for Germany. He played his first game in 2000 against the senior national football team of Russia .
