Mario Brian Chitaroni (born June 11, 1967 in Cobalt , Ontario ) is a former Italian - Canadian ice hockey player who played for the Eisbären Berlin and Nürnberg Ice Tigers in the German Ice Hockey League from 1984 to 2009 .
Career
Mario Chitaroni began his career as a hockey player with the Sudbury Wolves , for which he was active from 1984 to 1987 in the Canadian junior league Ontario Hockey League . Then the attacker played for three years for the Flint Spirits in the International Hockey League , where he was mainly used in his third professional year for the New Haven Nighthawks in the American Hockey League . From 1989 to 1993 he played for HC Alleghe in the Italian A1 series . With his team he won the Alpine League in the 1992/93 season . Following this success, he moved within Serie A1 to HC Devils Milano , with whom he became Italian champion straight away in the 1993/94 season . For the 1994/95 season he returned to North America in the IHL and played there for the Houston Eros . He was then signed by AS Varese Hockey , with whom he won the IIHF Federation Cup in 1995 after a 4-3 final victory over HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk from Russia .
From 1996 to 2000 Chitaroni played for the Eisbären Berlin in the German Ice Hockey League . He spent the following two seasons with their league rivals Nürnberg Ice Tigers . From 2002 to 2007 he ran for HC Milano Vipers in the A1 series and was Italian champion with the team in the first four seasons. In 2004 and 2005 he won the Coppa Italia with the Vipers and the Supercoppa Italiana in 2006 . Most recently, the Italian-Canadian competed in the A1 series for his ex-club HC Alleghe from 2007 to 2009.
International
For Italy , Chitaroni took part in the World Championships of Division I in 2004 and 2005 and the World Championships in 1992 , 1993 , 1994 , 1995 , 1996 , 1997 , 2000 , 2001 , 2007 and 2008 . He was also in his country's squad at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin .
