Marisa Berenson (born February 15, 1947 in New York ) is an American actress and former model .

Life

Berenson is the granddaughter of fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli and began her career in the 1960s as one of the best-paid models. In 1970 she graced the cover of Vogue together with the actor Helmut Berger , to whom she is said to have been engaged. She had her acting successes all in the early 1970s. She made her debut in Luchino Visconti's Death in Venice (1971). In this film she played Frau von Aschenbach, the wife of the composer Gustav von Aschenbach ( Dirk Bogarde ). She also starred in Bob Fosse's Oscar- winning musical adaptation of Cabaret, starring Liza Minnelli and starring in Barry Lyndon, directed by Stanley Kubrick . For her role in Cabaret she was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress and Young Actress.

Her sister Berry also worked as an actress and married her colleague Anthony Perkins from 1973 until his death in 1992. Berry Berenson fell victim to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 as a passenger on American Airlines Flight 11, which was the first to fly into the World Trade Center.
