Markus Schefer

Markus Schefer (born February 4, 1965 ) is a Swiss legal scholar who specializes in the legal areas of fundamental rights , international human rights protection and the comparative constitution.

Life

Markus Schefer grew up in Teufen / AR . From 1985 to 1990 he studied law at the University of Bern and from 1989 worked as assistant / senior assistant at the Institute for Public Law at the University of Bern with Jörg Paul Müller . In 1992/1993 he studied at the University of California at Berkeley Law School (Boalt Hall) and at Georgetown University Law Center, Washington, DC, and graduated with a Master of Laws (LL.M.). Back in Bern doctorate he 1995 on Dr. iur .

In 2001 he completed his habilitation at the University of Bern with the venia docendi for public law, comparative constitutional law and legal methodology. Since the winter semester 2001/2002 he is professor of state and administrative law at the University of Basel.

Since October 2005 he has been editor of the journal Jusletter on constitutional law . In recent years, Schefer has focused on the complete revision of the standard work Basic Rights in Switzerland by Jörg Paul Müller.

Markus Schefer is married and has two daughters.
