The Nigerien President Mamadou Tandja , who was elected in 1999 and 2004, sought in 2008/2009 a third term in office not provided for in the constitution and for this purpose switched off the National Assembly and the Constitutional Court. After Tandja was overthrown by the military on February 18, 2010, Marou Amadou became President of the National Consultative Council, the transitional parliament, on April 7, 2010. He held this office until April 7, 2011. He was succeeded as President of Parliament by the former Prime Minister Hama Amadou . Since April 21, 2011, Marou Amadou has held the post of Justice Minister and Government Spokesman in the government of Prime Minister Brigi Rafini .
