The Marshlands are a landscape in the Hamburg district of Bergedorf . They consist of the eight districts of Allermöhe , Billwerder , Moorfleet , Neuallermöhe (since January 1, 2011), Ochsenwerder , Reitbrook , Spadenland and Tatenberg . The Individual Name Marschlande resulted from the wide-ranging nature of the area as a type of landscape marshland .

The marshland are usually mentioned together with the Vierlanden (" Vier- und Marschlande "), which comprise the districts of Altengamme , Curslack , Kirchwerder and Neuengamme . Together with them they formed the Vier- und Marschlande local authority until March 1, 2008 . The local office was closed at this time.

geography

Like the Vierlande, the Marschlande belong to the river islands in the Elbe glacial valley . The first dikes were made in the 12th century.

The Moorwerder , located in the fork of the river between the Norder- and Süderelbe , originally belonged to the Hamburg marshland and for a long time formed an exclave in Lüneburg, later Hanover and Prussian territory. It was administered by the rulers of Bill- and Ochsenwerder until 1830 , then by the rulers of the marshland . After Wilhelmsburg came to Hamburg as part of the Greater Hamburg Act in 1937, Moorwerder was added to this district.
