Martin Friedli

Martin "Fred" Friedli (born May 24, 1974 in Thun ) is a former Swiss handball player . He played in the middle back during his playing days . After retiring in 2007, ten years later he was inducted into the Handball Hall of Fame , which was founded in 2017 .

Career

Friedli played for Wacker Thun from 1998 to 2006 and scored 1,891 goals in 322 games. In the seasons 2002/03 and 2005/06 he won the current SHV Cup twice (formerly the national cup). In 2005 he was instrumental in the surprising win of the EHF Challenge Cup with nine goals . He completed his last season in 2006/07 at BSV Bern (22 games, 131 goals), after actually announcing his retirement.

In the 2002/03 season Friedli was the top scorer of the National League A with 236 goals , which corresponds to an average of 7.2 goals per game. He is in fourth place in the NLA's all-time goalscorer list with an average of 5.9 goals per game.

Friedli played 19 times for the Swiss national team and scored 29 goals.

Personal

Martin Friedli is married and lives in Bern . In 2015 he founded his own company and is also committed to promoting young talent in handball.
