Matías Esteban Cenci (born February 12, 1978 in Quilmes , Argentina ) is a former football player with dual Argentinian and Italian citizenship .

Career

Cenci comes from the youth of Quilmes AC . In January 1999, he initially moved to Atlético Madrid in the context of a limited loan until the end of 1999 with an option to purchase 50% of the transfer rights to Europe . The loan transfer amount was $ 102,000 and half of the transfer rights were estimated at $ 1.3 million. There he played in the second team. After the promotion in 2001, the FC St. Pauli brought the center forward as a reinforcement for the Bundesliga team . However, Cenci could not assert himself in Hamburg - also due to an adductor injury that he had suffered early in the season; in 13 Bundesliga appearances, he scored only one goal. After two more missions for St. Pauli in the second division , his contract was dissolved in November 2002.

In February 2003, Cenci joined the Swiss first division club FC Luzern , with whom he was also relegated. After another season with the Swiss in National League B , he was without a contract for a few months before SV Darmstadt 98 brought him back to Germany. In the "Lilies" in the Regionalliga Süd , Cenci became a regular player; in two seasons he came here on 61 missions with 18 goals. For the 2006/07 season he moved to league competitor SV Wehen , where he was also part of the regular formation and was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga.

From summer 2007, Matías Cenci was under contract with FSV Frankfurt . In the 2007/08 regional league season , Cenci, who scored 14 goals in 31 games in this round, was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga with FSV. In January 2010, Cenci moved to the 3rd division for SV Sandhausen . After Cenci was only used as a substitute there and played no role in coach Frank Leicht's plans for the 2010/11 season, Cenci and the club dissolved the ongoing contract in August 2010 by mutual agreement. Cenci returned to the southern regional division SV Darmstadt 98 , where he signed a one-year contract. At the end of 2010, however, he returned to his home in Argentina.

On the occasion of the last season game of SV 98 in the regional league on May 26, 2011, Cenci was invited by the club to Darmstadt and celebrated promotion to the third division with his teammates.
