Matt Charman (born June 5, 1979 in Crawley , West Sussex ) is a British screenwriter , dramaturge and producer for films, who became internationally known through films such as Suite française - Melodie der Liebe or Bridge of Spies - The Negotiator .

life and career

Matt Charman began his career as a dramaturge at the Soho Theater, where he won the Verity Bargate Award in 2004 for his play A Night at the Dogs . Other plays followed with Five Wives (2007) and The Observer (2009). In 2012 his play Regrets premiered at the Manhattan Theater Club in New York. The machine premiered in 2013 .

Charman's breakthrough as a screenwriter came in 2014 with his work on Saul Dibb's war drama Suite française - Melodie der Liebe with Michelle Williams , Kristin Scott Thomas and Margot Robbie in the lead roles. He then worked for director Steven Spielberg together with Ethan and Joel Coen on the script for his film Bridge of Spies - The Negotiator with Tom Hanks . He and the Coen brothers received an Oscar nomination in the category Best Original Screenplay for Spielberg's film at the 2016 awards ceremony .

In addition to his work as a screenwriter, Matt Charman also worked as a producer for the television miniseries Black Work in 2015 . A year earlier he had worked as a scriptwriter for the television miniseries Our Zoo for several episodes.
