Matthew Wood

Matthew Wood (born August 15, 1972 in Walnut Creek , California ) is an American sound engineer and voice actor . He currently works at Skywalker Sound and developed some innovations for the Motion Picture Sound.

biography

Matthew Wood joined Skywalker Sound in Marin County, California in 1991. There he currently holds the position of Supervising Sound Editor. In the first few years he worked on several productions such as Night of the Black Widow (1992, as sound supervisor) and The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones (5 episodes, 1992–1993, as assistant sound editor).

The film Titan AE earned him a Golden Reel Award . Wood was also involved in the film Armageddon as an assistant sound designer.

In 1999 the Star Wars fan first made contact with the saga of George Lucas . In the production of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace , he played a key role in the sound work as the supervising sound editor. He also portrayed Twi'lek Bib Fortuna and the podrenner pilot Ody Mandrell and dubbed them in the original English version.

In Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones , Matthew Wood was also involved as a sound engineer, actor and voice actor. Among other things, he gave the battle droids in the film their unmistakable voice. He also played the roles of Seboca and Magaloof. After completing the filming of Episode 2 , he took further acting lessons at the American Conservatory Theater (ACT) in San Francisco, which he had completed in time for the start of the filming of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith . In the third part of the prequel trilogy, Wood lent his voice to the drug general General Grievous, among others .

Together with Ben Burtt , his friend and mentor, he worked as the supervising sound editor on the last part of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. In this film Wood dubbed the distinctive voice of General Grievous, who made him very well known in the Star Wars scene. Again he also took over the synchronization of all battle droids and had a brief appearance as Orn Free Taa. He received a Satellite Award for the sound design of Episode 3 .

Several other projects followed the Star Wars films. For example, he worked on the animated Pixar film Wall · E , for which he was nominated for an Oscar and a British Academy Film Award . He achieved the same with his clay work on There Will Be Blood . He also worked with Ben Burtt on the two Spielberg productions in Munich and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull .

With the start of production of Star Wars: The Clone Wars , he returned to the Star Wars universe. Matthew Wood is featured heavily as a voice actor in the series. Among other things, he speaks the voice of the characters Poggle and Wat Tambor, as well as the battle droids and General Grievous. He received his second Golden Reel Award for his work on the series.
