Maurice Cloche

Maurice Cloche (born June 17, 1907 in Commercy , † March 20, 1990 in Bordeaux ) was a French film director, screenwriter and film producer.

After studying art, Cloche made his film debut as an actor in the films Le grillon du foyer by Robert Boudrioz (1933) and Cessez le feu by Jacques de Baroncelli (1934). He then made the short films Versailles and Le mont Saint-Michel

In 1937 Cloche founded a production company and made his first feature films: the comedy Ces dames aux chapeaux verts and Le petit chose based on the novel of the same name by Alphonse Daudet . In 1940, he founded the Center des jeunes du cinéma in Castellaras , which later became the Institut des hautes études cinématographiques (IDHEC).

After the Second World War, Cloche emerged primarily with films of religious content such as Monsieur Vincent (1947), a biography of the founder of Caritas , Vincent von Paul , with Pierre Fresnay in the lead role, Docteur Laennec (with Pierre Blanchar ) and Moineaux de Paris with the Petits Chanteurs à la croix de bois and in 1958 with Prisons de femmes .

In 1962 the second version of the socially critical film La porteuse de pain with Suzanne Flon , Philippe Noiret and Jean Rochefort was made . After various B-movies he returned with Mais toi, do it Pierre about the life of Simon Petrus on a religious topic.
