Mauricio Aníbal Isla Isla (born June 12, 1988 in Buín ) is a Chilean football player . The defensive specialist has been under contract with the Turkish first division club Fenerbahçe Istanbul since July 2017 .

Career

Isla was trained in the youth department of the Chilean club CD Universidad Católica . At that time he was still often used as a striker, but his coaches later saw him in the defensive area of ​​a team due to his size. In 2007 Isla moved up to the adult sector. In the summer of 2007, when Isla was playing at the U-20 World Cup in Canada, he was watched by various Europeans. Ultimately, the Italian club Udinese Calcio soon secured the services of the young player. There he was finally retrained to the position of full-back. On December 19, 2007, Isla made his debut in the Coppa Italia , in the game against US Palermo . National team

In 2007 Isla was part of the U-20 Chile's at the U-20 South American Championship . In the entire course of the tournament, the team lost only two of nine games and was fourth. Isla drew attention to itself with good performances. With fourth place, the team qualified for the U-20 World Junior Championship in Canada in the same year. Chile advanced to the semi-finals, but had to admit defeat by eventual world champions Argentina . The game for third place was won again.
