Duggan spent her high school at Cushing Academy in Ashburnham , Massachusetts . The striker played there until 2006 before moving to college . In the following five years to 2011 Duggan studied at the University of Wisconsin – Madison and played parallel to her studies for the university team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . She had a very successful time in the service of the university, during which she won the national college championship three times and was also awarded the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award for best college player in the country following her last year . She was also appointed to the United States women's national ice hockey team for the first time in 2007 . With the team she won the world title three times before she left college. Furthermore, she won a silver medal in the world title fights and took part with the team in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , where she also brought home silver. In order to participate in the Olympics, Duggan had previously suspended the college game operations and spent the 2009/10 game year exclusively in the US hockey association USA Hockey .
For the 2011/12 season, the offensive player switched to the professional field and went on the ice for the following four years - mostly sporadically - for the Boston Blades in the Canadian Women's Hockey League . In her only full season she won the Clarkson Cup , the championship trophy of the CWHL, at the end of the 2012/13 game year . Meanwhile, the successes with the US national team continued, with which she followed up with two more gold medals at world championships in the following years up to the summer of 2015. As part of her second Olympic Winter Games , in which she was the team captain of the US Girls for the first time , she won silver again in Sochi in 2014 .
In the summer of 2015, the American moved to the newly founded National Women's Hockey League for the Buffalo Beauts . With this she lost the championship finals for the Isobel Cup against the Boston Pride in the league’s premier season . She then switched to the reigning champions the following season, but lost the final again - this time against her ex-team from Buffalo. With the national team, she won the sixth and seventh world championships of her career at the 2016 and 2017 World Championships. Then Duggan turned his back on Pride and the NWHL after two seasons and returned to USA Hockey for the 2017/18 season. In the association, she prepared for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , where she and the Americans finally won Olympic gold.
Duggan also gained her first coaching experience between 2014 and 2016 when she was an assistant coach at Clarkson University .
