Melecio Arranz

Melecio Arranz (born May 24, 1888 in Vigan City , Ilocos Sur , † April 24, 1966 ) was a Filipino politician .

biography

After attending school, he studied civil engineering at the University of Santo Tomas and graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Civil Engineering). He then entered government service in 1914 and was initially a junior assistant engineer in the public works office, before becoming the district engineer responsible for the provinces of Bataan and Rizal in 1919 . He later became a Supervising District Engineer in the Bureau of Public Works .

He began his political career in 1927 when he was elected a member of the Senate , in which he initially represented the 1st Senate electoral district after his re-election from 1934 to 1935, which included Batanes , Cagayan , Isabela , Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte and Abra .

In 1941 he was re-elected Senator and was a member of the Senate after re-elections in 1946 until December 1953. First he was from 1942 to 1946 as Majority Floor Leader leader of the majority parliamentary group in the Senate. After he was chairman of the committee for public works and communications in 1946, he was finally during the First Congress from 1946 to 1949 President of the Senate pro tempore and thus representative of the Senate President in his illness or absence.

In addition, in 1947 he was Chief Delegate of the Philippines to the United Nations Commission on the Situation in Korea .
