Francisco Villanueva

Francisco Felipe Villanueva (born October 10, 1867 in Molo , Iloilo City , † August 25, 1923 in Manila ) was a Filipino politician who was a member of both the Philippine Assembly and the Senate .

biography

In March 1898, Villanueva was the leader of a group of prominent people from the Visayas region, such as Ramon Avanceña and Jose Tionko, and founded the Comite Conspirador in Molo with them . With this he became involved in the Philippine Revolution at the side of Emilio Aguinaldo and was instrumental in the revolutionary efforts on the island of Panay . He was a delegate of the Visayas in the Malolos Congress led by Aguinaldo and subsequently headed the Comite Central Revolucionario de Visayas . He completed a law degree and, after being admitted to the bar on February 2, 1902, worked as a lawyer .

In the elections of November 2, 1909, Villanueva was elected to succeed Amando Avanceña as a member of the Philippine Assembly and represented the first constituency of Iloilo until 1916. In the elections of October 3, 1916, he became a member of the Senate, where he represented the then seventh Senate electoral district, which included the provinces of Iloilo , Capiz and Romblon , until his death . During this time he was also the first Majority Floor Leader between 1916 and 1919 and thus leader of the majority parliamentary group in the Senate.
