The Sousse Governorate ( Arabic ولاية سوسة, DMG Wilāya Sūsa ) is one of 24 governorates in Tunisia . It is located in the north-west of the country on the Mediterranean coast and covers an area of ​​2,669 km². The neighboring governorates are Nabeul in the north, Zaghouan in the northwest, Kairouan in the southwest and Monastir in the southeast. Sousse is separated from the Mahdia governorate in the south by a lake. The population is 622,100. The capital of the governorate is also called Sousse .

economy

In the agriculture 153,000 people are employed. The most important product is grain (230,000 t / year), followed by olive oil (60,000 t) and vegetables, especially tomatoes (54,000 t). In the industry , especially the textile industry, 44,500 people are employed approx. Industrial areas are provided for 226 hectares . The service industry provides around 40,000 beds in 115 hotels.
