Michael Grünberger (skeleton pilot)

Michael Grünberger (born November 5, 1964 ) is a former Austrian skeleton driver .

Michael Grünberger started in November 1988 for the first time in a skeleton World Cup race . In Calgary he finished seventh. In the next race in Winterberg he was able to improve to fourth place. He achieved the same rank shortly afterwards at the Skeleton World Championships in St. Moritz , in which he took part for the first time. Grünberger had his final breakthrough at the beginning of 1990. After winning his only World Cup race in Igls , shortly afterwards he won the title at the world championships on the Königssee artificial ice rink . A year later he won the bronze medal in Igls, in 1993 in La Plagne , in 1995 in Lillehammer and in 1995 in Calgary he was fourth. In the World Cup, his best placings were second places in the 1990/1991 and 1995/1996 seasons . After his active career, Grünberger became national coach for Austria.
