Michael Schetsche

Michael Schetsche (* 1956 ) is a German sociologist and political scientist . He is an adjunct professor at the Institute for Sociology at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and research coordinator at the Freiburg Institute for Frontier Areas of Psychology and Mental Hygiene (IGPP). His research focuses on the areas of knowledge and media sociology , cultural sociology and cultural anthropology . He also deals with futurology , xenology and exosociology .

Career

Schetsche studied political science at the Free University of Berlin . He did his doctorate and habilitation in the field of sociology at the University of Bremen . He then taught as a private lecturer in sociology at the University of Bremen before moving to the Institute for Sociology at the University of Freiburg. Since May 2002 he has been a department head at the IGPP.

Positions

Since 2015, Schetsche has increasingly appeared in the media through his work in the field of exosociology. He believes that intelligent extraterrestrial life exists and that it is likely that it will encounter humans in the future. For humanity, this is primarily a risk, also because of the culture shock that is to be expected .
