Michel Laurent

Michel Laurent (born August 10, 1953 in Bourbon-Lancy ) is a former French cyclist and sports director .

Michel Laurent was a professional from 1975 to 1984 and was able to record numerous victories, especially in one-day races , but was overshadowed by Bernard Hinault during his time . His greatest success was the victory at Paris – Nice in 1976. In 1978 he won the classic La Flèche Wallonne and the Critérium des As , 1980 the Critérium International and 1982 the Critérium du Dauphiné . In 1978 and 1980 he won the Tour du Vaucluse . In 1982 he won the Mediterranean Tour . At the Giro d'Italia 1979 he finished fourth overall.

Laurent started nine times in the Tour de France , in 1977 he finished seventh overall. In the 1983 Tour , Laurent won the 16th stage after the Dutchman Henk Lubberding had brought him down in the final sprint . Lubberding was disqualified and Laurent was declared the winner.

After the end of his active career, Laurent u. a. active as the sporting director of cycling teams , most recently as assistant to Roger Legeay at the Crédit Agricole team until the end of the 2008 season .
