Mike Costin

Michael "Mike" Charles Costin (* 1929 in London ) is a former British engine builder and racing driver .

Career

He attended Salvatorian College in Wealdstone (in the London Borough of Harrow ). In 1950 he became an aircraft engineer with de Havilland Aircraft Company . Three years later he worked there as a draftsman during the day and as a developer for Lotus Engineering at night . In 1956 he became technical director at Lotus. From the following year Keith Duckworth also worked there , with whom he founded W8 Cosworth in 1958 in Shaftesbury Mews London . He worked at Lotus again during the day and at Cosworth at night. The next year they moved to 43 Friern Barnet Road, Friern Barnet, London, and started their first project MK 1 , a modified Ford 105E Anglia engine.

Mike Costin is the younger brother of Frank Costin , well-known aerodynamicist and racing car designer for Lotus, Lister, Maserati, Marcos.
