Michael James Tindall MBE (born October 18, 1978 in Otley ) is an English rugby union player . He plays as the inner three-quarters for the England team and Gloucester .

Tindall made his debut for England against Ireland in the 2000 Six Nations . He was already part of the squad at the 1999 World Cup , but was not used. In England's Grand Slam win at the 2003 Six Nations , he played a central role in the decisive attempt against the Irish. At the following World Cup he played six of seven games and was able to celebrate winning the title at the end of the tournament.

Following this success, he was seriously injured and was out for some time. When he returned, he was appointed vice captain of the national team. Further injuries followed, so that he missed both the 2007 World Cup and the 2008 Six Nations .

His father Phil was the captain of the local rugby club Otley RUFC . Tindall has been married to Zara Phillips , daughter of Princess Anne , since July 30, 2011 . On July 8, 2013, Buckingham Palace announced that the couple was expecting their first child in 2014. Daughter Mia Grace was born on January 17, 2014 at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital . On November 29, 2016, his wife's second pregnancy was announced. A month later, the public learned that Zara Phillips had suffered a miscarriage . On June 18, 2018, he and his wife fathered a second daughter, Lena Elizabeth Tindall.
