The Menagh (Minnigh) military airfield is located 6 km south of Aʿzāz in Syria , on the outskirts of the village of Minaq .

The Syrian Air Force recently had its 4th flight training squadron with MBB 233 Flamingo training aircraft and Mil Mi-8 helicopters .

During the Syrian Civil War , rebels from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and allies attacked the air force base on August 2, 2012. On December 27, 2012, the base was encircled after heavy fighting and the Syrian Air Force tried to stop the siege of the rebels with MiG fighter planes.

The Syrian government troops then lost the airport in August 2013 after months of fighting .

Kurdish People's Defense Units (YPG) captured the airfield on February 11, 2016 from the rebel alliance Levante Front . Turkish artillery, which had arrived near the border crossing at Kilis on Turkish territory, shelled the base with shells two days later.
