The nature reserve is located in the northern Black Forest in the area of ​​the communities of Marxzell , Karlsbad (Baden) in the district of Karlsruhe and Straubenhardt in the Enzkreis in Baden-Württemberg. It is located southwest of the Ittersbach district of the municipality of Karlsbad (Baden).

Characteristics

The area was designated as a nature reserve by ordinance on September 28, 1998 by the Karlsruhe Regional Council and has an area of ​​50 hectares. It is listed under the protected area number 2.213 and is classified in IUCN Category IV, a biotope and species protection area. The CDDA code is 318785 and also corresponds to the WDPA ID .

The main protection purpose is the safeguarding and preservation of the diverse wet and wet meadows as well as the extensively used poor meadow areas in the source area of ​​the Pfinz with their floristic biodiversity, as well as the preservation and promotion of the diversity of rare and endangered animal and plant species - especially birds and grasshoppers and orchids.

The habitats of the wet meadows and wet meadows are still - despite being under protection - threatened in their continued existence by water grading, drainage, lowering of the groundwater level and the like.

Today's vegetation developed due to a long cultural use in grassland management. The protected area was designated on September 28, 1998 with an area of ​​about 50 hectares. It consists of a large meadow landscape of wet, wet and poor meadows in the source area of ​​the Pfinz and has a rich orchid population.

The nature reserve is part of an undulating plateau with a thick loess clay cover. The base plate is made from middle and upper red sandstone.

Flora and fauna

In addition to the distinctive wet and wet meadows, the protected area also consists of dry, rough meadows. Among the 16 from the categories of endangered animals and plants in need of care in Baden-Württemberg there are also early-blooming domestic orchids such as a few specimens of the orchid (Orchis morio) and a larger population of the genus of the orchid (Dactylorhiza) .

The locust species that occur include white-rimmed grasshoppers and marsh grasshoppers , which are classified as "endangered" according to the Baden-Württemberg Red List. The former is rarer only in southern Germany. Among the endangered birds occurring here belongs backed Shrike .
