Mokhtar Dahari

Mokhtar Dahari (born November 13, 1953 in Setapak , Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia , † July 11, 1991 in Subang Jaya ) was a Malaysian football player.

He began his professional career in 1972 with the Malaysian first division club Selangor FA , for whom he played for 15 years. He won the Malaysia Cup, the largest tournament in the country, 10 times with Selangor and during that time he scored 177 goals for the club. He ended his career in May 1986 after winning the Malaysia Cup for the tenth time with Selangor, but returned to Selangor for a season in January 1987.

In 1972, at the age of just 19, he played his first international match against the selection of Sri Lanka . He played a total of 167 games for the Malaysian national football team until 1985 , in which he was able to score 125 times. Considered the best Malaysian soccer player of all time, he was ranked 30th in the Asian Soccer Player of the Century election .

Mokhtar died of muscular dystrophy at the age of 37 .
