The Mount Macdonald is a mountain in the Selkirk Mountains in the south of the Canadian province of British Columbia . The 2883  m high mountain is located immediately east of the Rogers Pass in Glacier National Park . The mountain's original name was Mount Carroll , but it was changed in honor of John Macdonald , Canada's first Prime Minister.

The mountain is known for two tunnels of the transcontinental railway line of the Canadian Pacific Railway , the 8.1 km long Connaught Tunnel and the 14.7 km long Mount Macdonald Tunnel - second longest railway tunnel in the Americas.

On the 1,700 meter high north side of the mountain, at the foot of which the Trans-Canada Highway lies, avalanches are regularly recorded in the winter months, which block one of Canada's main road links.

The first ascent took place in 1886 by DO Lewis and several employees of the railway company.
