The Mount Tamalpais (local and Mount Tam called) is a mountain in Marin County , California , often referred to as symbol is used for Marin County.

A large part of the mountain area is legally protected by nature conservation. Examples are the Mount Tamalpais State Park or Mount Tamalpais Watershed . At the highest point (East Peak) there is a fire watch tower . The Muir Woods National Monument, a recreational area popular with the residents of the greater San Francisco area, is also located at the foot of the Tamalpais on a stream.

Trivia

  • The English philosopher Alan Watts lived in a hut in Druid Heights on the southeast slope of Mount Tamalpais with like-minded people as neighbors and died there in 1973.
  • From 1973, a group of cyclists used the impassable slopes of the mountain as a racing track. The bicycles were gradually improved to meet the special requirements, until the mountain bike was finally created.
  • The film Planet of the Apes Revolution initially takes place on Mount Tamalpais, as can be seen from the signs in the film.
