The Murauer Straße (B 97) is a country road in Austria . It connects the district capital Murau with the municipality Predlitz-Turrach and the Turracher Straße (B 95) in the west of the district of the same name over a length of 21 km . The road follows the course of the Mur and is accompanied by the Murtalbahn .

history

The road from Lind via Murau, Stadl and Predlitz was assigned to the first class district roads by the law of October 3, 1868. By a resolution of the Styrian state parliament on February 5, 1895, it was downgraded to a district road, 2nd class. Since April 1, 1938, the district roads of the 1st order in Styria have been run as state roads.

The Upper Mur Valley Road belongs since April 1, 1948 the network of federal roads in Austria . It led from Scheifling to Mauterndorf in Salzburg and was originally called the B 96.

Since January 1, 1973, the Murtal Straße (today's B 96) no longer leads over the Murtal, but over Ranten . The old route through the Murtal has since been called Murauer Straße . The short stretch from the Turracher Passstrasse to the state border near Predlitz, once part of the Lungauer-Steiermärker Strasse , was taken to Turracher Strasse (B 95), which continues to Katschberg Strasse in Mauterndorf.

The road was transferred from the federal government to the federal states of Salzburg and Styria as a state road in 2002.
