Nada (born November 17, 1953 as Nada Malanima in Rosignano Marittimo , Livorno province ) is an Italian pop music singer. She became internationally known through the number one hit Ma che freddo fa from 1969.

Career

Nada (nickname: Il Pulcino di Gabbro; translated: the chick from Gabbro) became a nationally known singer in her teenage years. Her debut song Ma che freddo fa , performed at the Sanremo Festival in 1969 , came out empty-handed in terms of price. The catchy piece, composed by Claudio Mattone and written by Franco Migliacci , however, conquered the Italian charts and became an international box-office hit of Italian pop in the late 1960s. The Italian-language version was covered by numerous interpreters. Nada himself recorded a French version (Et pourtant j'ai froid) and a Spanish version (Hace frío ya). In 1970 the singer took part in both the Sanremo Festival and Canzonissima .

She had her breakthrough at the Sanremo Festival in 1971 with the hit Il cuore è uno zingaro , presented there with Nicola Di Bari . Other successful singles of the early 1970s were Una chitarra ed un'armonica and Il re di denari (at Sanremo 1972 ). Despite her chart success, Nada shifted more and more to a commercially less profitable but artistically more satisfying form of career in the course of the following years. She worked more and more with aspiring songwriters such as Riccardo Cocciante , Antonello Venditti , Claudio Baglioni and Paolo Conte . The number of original compositions also increased. In 1977 she made her debut as a stage actress. She played roles in plays by Giulio Bosetti and Dario Fo, among others .

Parallel to the artistic reorientation, the presence in the singles charts fell, as did the sales of studio albums. With Amore disperato , she achieved another top five success in 1983, after the song had won the Festivalbar , Azzurro and Vota la Voce competitions. With their comparatively diverse repertoire, ranging from hits to pop and folk to traditional canzones such as La porti un bacione a Firenze or Maremma , sustained chart successes were difficult to combine . In the 1990s, she intensified her collaboration with Piero Ciampi , a Cantautore also from the Livorno region . With the title Guardami negli occhi she took part again in 1999 at the Sanremo Festival. In 2000 she sang the song Il figlio del dolore in a duet with Adriano Celentano - a dark ballad that brings up the subject of rape in war .

In 2003 Nada's first book was published, the volume of poetry Le mie madri. In 2007, after a number of other album releases, Nada returned to the Sanremo Festival , where she presented the self-written song Luna in piena , but did not make it into the top ten. This was followed by the album Tutto a posto , followed in 2008 by the live album Stazione birra . At the same time the autobiography Il mio cuore umano was published , which was also adapted as a play in 2009 and later as a television film. In 2009 Nada also made a celebrated appearance together with Carmen Consoli , Paola Turci and Marina Rei at the Amiche-per-l'Abruzzo concert in Milan's San Siro stadium - a benefit concert for the earthquake victims in the Umbrian city of L, played by Italian musicians and singers 'Aquila .

Her project Nada Trio, founded in 1997, has caused a sensation in recent years - an acoustic mini-combo with Fausto Mesolella and Ferruccio Spinetti ( Avion Travel ), with which she plays old and new, foreign and her own songs. She also attracted attention with cross-genre guest appearances - for example together with the folk and alternative rock band Ardecore . In addition, she continued her artistic production without interruption: the albums Vamp (2011) and Occupo poco spazio (2014) followed, interrupted by the publication of the novel La grande casa (2012). The previous album L'amore devi seguirlo was released in 2016, as was the novel Leonida .

Nada's song Senza un perché (2004) plays a prominent role in The Young Pope , an Italian television series in English produced by Paolo Sorrentino for Sky Atlantic , HBO and Canal + in 2016 , which made it known to an international TV audience.
