Location of Nadelwitz in Bautzen

Nadelwitz , Upper Sorbian Nadźanecy ? / i , is a place in East Saxony and has been part of Bautzen since 1994 . It is located in the east of the city at 200 m above sea level. NN north of the B 6 and southeast of the B 156 . The district includes the village of Nadelwitz and its historical district, as well as some residential areas, larger arable and forest areas and the Niederkainaer Straße industrial park. Nadelwitz has 278 inhabitants. According to statistics published by the city in December 2007, Nadelwitz is the district with the oldest population on average. The average age is 48 years. geography

The highest point of the district is the Schafberg, between Nadelwitz and Niederkaina (201.6 m above sea level). There is a prehistoric burial ground , which with over 2000 graves is one of the largest sites in Germany. The Albrechtsbach flows through the district .

history

The Nadelwitz settlement was first mentioned in 1345 as the Nadillicz manor . It formed an independent rural community until 1936, then was incorporated into Baschütz and in 1979 to Jenkwitz . With the municipal reform of 1994 Nadelwitz came to Bautzen.

Until the 20th century, a large part of the population spoke Sorbian . Arnošt Muka determined for his statistics of the Lusatian Sorbs in 1884/85 a total population of 100, 79 of them Sorbs and 21 Germans.

In 1926 and 1960, archaeological finds from the Early Bronze Age were discovered near Nadelwitz , the so-called Nadelwitz Depot .

Economy and Infrastructure

In the north of the district is the Bautzen-Ost industrial park. The Weißenberger road is the site of the former landfill Bautzen needle joke that is no longer used for dumping since of 2004.
