Profile career

Philip Rivers

Kaeding was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the third round in 2004 in 65th place in the NFL Draft . Originally, the New York Giants would have been the team that could have signed a player at the time of the draft. In order to sign quarterback Eli Manning , as the Giants intended, they had to reach an agreement with the Chargers. The Chargers, who had the first access right in the draft, selected Eli Manning first in the first round and handed him over to the Giants. In return, the Giants gave the fourth-placed quarterback Philip Rivers, together with the Giants' draft right, to the Chargers in the third round. They used the opportunity to tie Kaeding in the third round of the draft. Kaeding was signed earlier than usual for a kicker .

Kaeding justified the trust the San Diego team put in him. By the end of 2010 he was able to convert 86.5% of his field goals . From 2005 to 2008 he transformed all points after touchdown (PAT).

In 2004, the Chargers won 12 of their 16 games. They failed in the play-offs, however, in the first round at the New York Jets . In the 20:17 defeat, Kaeding managed a field goal.

In 2006 the Chargers won 14 of the 16 games. Again they did not make it into the Super Bowl , they failed because of the New England Patriots . Kaeding missed a field goal in the 21:24 defeat.

In 2007, Kaeding broke his leg while tackling a game against the Denver Broncos . He still played the season to the end. The Chargers moved into the AFC Championship Game in 2007 after one season with eleven wins , but lost to the Patriots with 12:21. Kaeding scored four field goals in the game.

Although the Chargers finished the regular season 2008 with a balanced record, they moved into the play-offs. There they failed at the eventual Super Bowl winner, the Pittsburgh Steelers , with 24:35. Kaeding scored a field goal to temporarily lead the Chargers 10: 7.

Honors

Mike Scifres

Nate Kaeding received the 2002 Lou Groza Award for the best college football kicker of the year . In 2006 he was voted All-Pro . In 2007 and 2009 he played in the Pro Bowl .

Kaeding is married and has two sons. He is an avid cyclist and is involved in an association that aims to improve safety for cyclists in road traffic. With his support, the von Kaeding family founded an organization that promotes amateur sports. The organization organizes a golf tournament every year. Kaeding has founded an organization with the Chargers punter , Mike Scifres , which supports a pension in which families with sick children can live cheaply while the children are treated in a hospital.
