Nattvindens Gråt was a Finnish Gothic and Death Doom band from Kitee that was founded in 1994 and disbanded in 1997.

history

Nattvindens Gråt was a project founded in 1994 and led by bassist, guitarist and singer Teemu Kautonen. Other members of the band included keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen and bassist Sami Vänskä . After a demo by Dar Svanar Flyer , the debut album followed in 1995 under the name A Bard's Tale , whereupon Suvi can be heard as a guest singer and Tapio Wilska as a guest singer. In 1997 the second album Chaos Without Theory followed . In the same year the group disbanded. In the summer of the following year, Sami Vänskä appeared with Nightwish .

The band later reunited in Germany . She called herself Nattvind and released a hard rock album in 2002 under the name Subuniverses . The recordings for this had already taken place in 1999. The cast consisted of the guitarist and bassist Teemu Kautonen, the singer Geoff, the guitarist, bassist and keyboardist Puukko and the drummer Pasi.

style

According to The Ultimate Hard Rock Guide Vol I - Europe is on Dar svanar flyger yet Black Metal to hear, is enriched with a variety of melodies and the use of some genre foreign instruments. Wolf-Rüdiger Mühlmann from Rock Hard wrote in his review of A Bard's Tale that it combines “ Gothic , Metal and solemn Nordic pathetic ” and “banishes feelings such as love, happiness, sorrow and loneliness” onto the album. Overall, A Bard's Tale is reminiscent of The Gathering 's first album , although parallels to Moonspell come up. In addition, there is Celtic music, brought to bear by the alternating use of male and female singing. Stefan Janik from metal1.info also reviewed the album and remarked that Black Metal was no longer predominant, as on the demo, but elements of Gothic Rock , Doom Metal and Folk were mixed. It is already clear at the beginning that the music is rather calm. The keyboard used initially is reminiscent of menhir . The electric guitars, on the other hand, tend to sound rather reserved. Spoken chants are mostly used as singing. Two years later, Mühlmann reviewed Chaos Without Theory . This CD is just another copy of Paradise Lost and The Sisters of Mercy . The music as a whole could be assigned to Gothic Metal, with "a couple of reasonably bearable, fat riffs " being played every now and then .
