Bergisches Land Nature Park
The Bergisches Land Nature Park is a nature park in North Rhine-Westphalia in the Bergisches Land with a size of 2,061 km².
geography
The nature park is surrounded by the foothills of the Sauerland in the east, the Westerwald in the south (the northern edge of which is included on the left bank of the Sieg), the Cologne-Siegburg Bay in the west and the Bergisch cities of Wuppertal , Remscheid and Solingen in the north.
As the northern part of the Rhenish Slate Mountains , the area of the nature park is a typical low mountain range. It rises from west to east from about 60 m (above sea level) to heights of over 500 m.
In 2006 it was expanded and now also includes the Wuppertal district of Cronenberg and further parts of the Wuppertal south to the Wupper as well as some districts from Solingen and Remscheid and the district city of Leichlingen (Rhineland) . The Bergisches Land nature park has grown as a result; to be precise, it has expanded its scope by 145 km² on the northern border and now covers an area of 2,061 km².
With the new areas, the Bergisches Land Nature Park has further increased its importance for sustainable, natural and landscape-friendly day and short holidays.
carrier
The Bergisches Land Nature Park recreation area is intended to represent the landscape in the Bergisches Land as a unit. For this reason, the Bergisches Land Nature Park Association was founded. This association regards people as part of the landscape and culture and is not limited to environmental protection alone. Since the Bergisches Land lies in the catchment area of the Rhine ( Cologne / Düsseldorf ) and potentially 11 million people use this as a recreation area, the aim is to ensure sustainable tourism.
For this reason, four institutions and groups have come together to form a special purpose association:
- Regional Association of Rhineland
- Conservation associations
- Hiking and leisure clubs
- Tourism associations (including the Oberbergisches Land tourism association in Gummersbach )
The following topics are the subject of the thesis:
- The early traces of industrialization ( mills etc.)
- The Counts of Berg
- Biking and hiking trails , riding stables (keyword: gentle tourism)
- Waterway tourism (boats)
- Skiing (trails)
- Cultural events
