Ne-yo
Ne-Yo (* 18th October 1979 in Camden , Arkansas , real name Shaffer Chimere Smith ) is an American R & B - singer , songwriter and actor with African-American and Sino American ancestors.
Career
In his early years, Smith made a name for himself primarily as a songwriter , writing and composing numerous titles for artists such as Mary J. Blige , Christina Milian , Faith Evans , Game , 50 Cent and Jamie Foxx . In 2003 he signed a record deal with Columbia Records , but the singer and record company quickly recognized musical differences. In 2003, the label parted ways with Smith. Then he got to know the music producer LA Reid , who gave him a new contract with his major label Def Jam Records . There he took the stage name Ne-Yo. Around the same time he helped the singer Mario achieve a worldwide number one hit with Let Me Love You .
In 2005 Ne-Yo released his debut single Stay , which, however, only had success in the US R&B charts. Only with the follow-up single, the number one ballad So Sick , did he make his international breakthrough. In February 2006, Ne-Yo's debut album In My Own Words was released, which subsequently went platinum several times in the United States . After that, Ne-Yo could be heard on both Ghostface Killah's single Back Like That and on the remix for Busta Rhymes ' Touch It . For the 2006 released albums by Rihanna and Beyoncé , he also contributed the later releases Unfaithful and Irreplaceable .
In early 2007, the singer finished recording his album Because of You , which was released in the United States in May 2007 and immediately made it to number one on the Billboard charts. Four singles were released from the record, of which only the lead single Because of You reached the top 20. In addition, Ne-Yo was also heard on the new releases by Sarah Connor and rapper Fabolous . Ne-Yo contributed the song "I've Got Nothing Left" to the album by Celine Dion , released in autumn 2007 .
In autumn 2008, Ne-Yo's third album, Year of the Gentleman , was released, which surpassed the success of the first two. The previously released single Closer was his second number one hit in the UK charts and his first top 10 hit in the German and Austrian singles charts .
In September 2009 his first best-of album was released in Japan, which also contains a track with the Japanese singer Hikaru Utada . For the Disney film Kiss the Frog , Ne-Yo wrote the song Never Knew I Needed , which was recorded in the German version as a duet with Cassandra Steen .
His fourth studio album Libra Scale was released on October 29, 2010 , from which the single Beautiful Monster was released in June , which reached number 53 in the US charts . On August 27, the song was released on the Internet and on CD.
Ne-Yo released Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself) as the first single of his fifth album RED . This single was mainly produced by the Stargate production team, but also in collaboration with Jan Vollers. The album was released in Germany on November 2, 2012. The single Time of Our Live immediately made it into the US and other charts. In Germany, too, the single reached the top 20 in collaboration with US rapper Pitbull . The two of them produced a world hit back in 2011 with the single Give Me Everything . To date, the single has sold over eight million times. On the album Loved Me Back to Life by Celine Dion, released in November 2013, Ne-Yo can be heard in a duet with the singer in the song Incredible, which he contributed . Ne-Yo also wrote the song Thank you for Dion's album .
Private life
Ne-Yo was in a relationship with the actress Monyetta Shaw , with whom he has two children (* 2010 and 2011). He has been married to Crystal Renay Smith since February 2016, and their children were born in 2016 and 2018.
