Cassandra Steen (* 9. February 1980 in Ostfildern - Ruit ) is a living in Germany American Pop - and R & B - singer . She is a member of the music group Glashaus . As a solo artist, she has released four studio albums so far. She gained greater fame after participating in the Bundesvision Song Contest 2009 with her song Darum wir Leben and later also with the song Stadt , which was a great success in Germany.

Life

Cassandra Steen's parents separated before she was even born. She never met her father, a US soldier. She was abandoned by her mother in early childhood when she moved to the United States. Steen grew up with her grandparents on a US army base on the outskirts of Ostfildern- Nellingen near Stuttgart . Her grandfather, an African American , was a GI . Her grandmother was German and worked for the bank on the military base. Steen grew up bilingual; Only English was spoken within the family .

According to his own statements, Steen has only US citizenship . She has been married to her manager Stephan Kocian since December 2013.

Career

Cassandra Steen first became famous at the age of 17 as a duet partner of Freundeskreis on the album Quadratur des Kreises . Numerous festival and open-air appearances with the band followed before she was signed as a solo artist by Booya Music in 1998. Two years later, 3P label boss Moses Pelham became aware of the singer via a demo tape and, after first recording together in the studio, signed a contract with her.

Shortly after signing the contract, she made a name for herself as the lead singer of the Glashaus trio . The collaboration with Pelham and Martin Haas resulted in three commercially successful albums in 2003 and a solo release under the title Seele mit Herz . She also helped label colleagues such as Illmatic and Sabrina Setlur as a background and chorus voice .

Since 2003 Cassandra Steen can also be heard outside of 3P as a feature on new releases by other artists such as Azad , J-Luv , W4C , Melbeatz , Freundeskreis , Curse , Tone , Bushido and Xavier Naidoo . In cooperation with Bushido, the single Hope dies last was created in 2005 .

In early 2009, Cassandra Steen released a solo album entitled Darum wir Leben . With the first single of the same name , she represented her state of Baden-Württemberg at the Bundesvision Song Contest 2009 in Potsdam on February 13th and came in fourth. The single Darum Leben wir was released on January 30th, 2009. In the summer of 2009, the single Stadt, recorded together with Adel Tawil , made it to number 2 in the German charts and achieved platinum status. For the German version of the Disney film Kiss the Frog , she dubbed the title role of Tiana and sang the song Never Knew I Needed together with the American R'n'B singer Ne-Yo . This made it to number 64 in the German singles charts, in Portugal the title reached number 15.

On April 29, 2011, she released her third solo album, Mir so nah . For the first single Gebt Alles , she worked again with Adel Tawil . The second single Tanz was released on August 5, 2011 .

At the KiKA casting show Dein Song , Cassandra Steen took on a music sponsorship for the second time in 2014, after she had already been there in 2009. Together with Vincent Ott, she sang the song Shades & Shadows in the finale on April 4th . In televoting they lost to DJ BoBo and his protégé Pier Luca Abel.

At the end of 2016 she got back into the band Glashaus and released the album Kraft with them after twelve years . In the spring of 2017, she supported Moses Pelham on the music show Sing my Song - The Exchange Concert for some songs.
