Comet (music award)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Comet was a German music prize awarded by the music broadcaster VIVA from 1995 to 2012 . The most popular and successful stars of the German music scene were awarded the audience award in a different number of categories. The audience decided by voting which artists in the various categories were allowed to take a Comet home with them.

In the meantime, the prize has been awarded and broadcast in cooperation with other television broadcasters. From 1999 to at least 2002 the media partner was ZDF . In 2005 the award was organized together with ProSieben .

In 2006 and 2012 the award was canceled. In 2013, the award ceremony was canceled in favor of the MTV Europe Music Awards of the sister broadcaster MTV , the award of which has now been broadcast on VIVA, as MTV switched to pay TV in 2011 .

From 2005 to 2008, the Super Comet was given as a special award . During the show, the audience voted for the most popular Comet artist from among all the winners of the evening. Tokio Hotel won the award all three times . In 2008 the Star of Stars category was introduced, the winners of which are determined by the event's nominees. Herbert Grönemeyer emerged as the winner .
