Minh-Khai Phan-Thi (born February 19, 1974 in Darmstadt ) is a German actress , television presenter , director and screenwriter of Vietnamese origin . She gained first notoriety through her work at the music channel VIVA , later she made a name for herself as a character actress in film and television .

life and career

Minh-Khai Phan-Thi, the daughter of Vietnamese immigrants, moved to Munich with her family at the age of ten , learned martial arts and became editor-in-chief of the school newspaper. After graduating from high school, she began her television career as a presenter at the station Kabel eins ( The Hugo Show , 1994) and a little later became known to a wider audience at the music station VIVA with the formats Interactive, Manhattan World Tour and Minh-Khai & Friends . In 1999 she left the music channel.

Phan-Thi made her acting debut in 1995 in the Munich Tatort episode Frau Bu lacht , and in 1997 she appeared in the television film Jagdsaison . She gained fame in 2000 through the role of the seductive prostitute Kim-Lan in Save Your Skin and through the role of the young postulant in Die Novizin . After Sonnenallee she could be seen in the cinema in Hans-Christoph Blumenberg's Planet of the Cannibals . Under the direction of Lars Becker, she has been the first German- Asian detective in the ZDF crime series Nachtschicht since 2003 . She was also seen several times in other successful crime series, including a. in the RTL series Post Mortem , Polizeiruf 110 and the ZDF series Der Kriminalist .

In January 2003 Phan-Thi made the documentary My Vietnam - Land and No War , a description of the current situation in her second home. According to her own script, she is directing here for the first time . Her book At Home - My Life in Germany and Vietnam , which was published in autumn 2007, was based on her documentary .

In 2008 Phan-Thi was involved in the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue as an ambassador in Germany. It was a campaign by the European Commission to inform people in all 28 EU countries about the benefits of diversity and to get them excited about an intercultural exchange. She has been supporting the development organization ONE since 2009 .

In 2011, Phan-Thi took on a leading role in the gender comedy Men Tick, Women Different , which won the Jupiter Award in 2012. In 2012 she stood for the movie And tomorrow at noon I'll be dead in front of the camera, u. a. next to Bibiana Beglau . In 2013 she was part of the main cast of the RTL series Christine alongside Diana Amft . Yesterday was perfect!

Since the end of 2012, Phan-Thi has been a presenter at the Sport 1 channel , where she presents the Bundesliga - The matchday program .

From March to June 2015 Phan-Thi was a candidate for the RTL show Let's Dance in season 8 , where she took second place.

Phan-Thi has a son from a previous relationship and has been married to Ansgar Niggemann since April 2017, who is the head of the Marketing and Sales department in the Alba Berlin basketball club . With him she has a son who was born in May 2017.
