Nedim Doğan (* 1943 in Istanbul ) is a former Turkish football player . Through his many years of work for Fenerbahçe Istanbul , he is very strongly associated with this club and is regarded by fans and club sides as one of its most legendary players. He was an important part of the Fenerbahçe team that won the Turkish championship twice in a row for the first time. In addition, in the 1967/68 season he was a member of the team that won the first Turkish double in club history. From 1970 he was team captain of Fenerbahçe.
Player career
society
Dogan was born in the Istanbul district of Cibali and learned to play football as a street footballer. At Cibali SK , the club in his district, he fell on Ali Mortaş, a club official of İstanbulspor , and was committed in 1958 at the age of fifteen. After he was more of a reservist at his new club for a year and stayed mainly in the youth department, he was accepted into the professional squad in 1960. With his new club he played in the Millî Lig (today's Süper Lig). This league was founded in the spring of 1959 as the first nationwide national league in Turkey and replaced the regional leagues in the larger metropolitan areas, such as B. the İstanbul Profesyonel Ligi (German Istanbul Professional League ), as the highest and only Turkish league. Doğan was considered at the end of the second season of the Millî Lig in the squad planning of the Cemal Gürsel Cup and made his debut in the game of June 19, 1960 against Vefa Istanbul . For the 1960/61 season , the third season of the Millî Lig, he immediately established himself as a regular and top performer. This season, at the age of 18, he was the most successful goalscorer of his team with twelve league goals and one of the most successful in the league. This made him one of the league's shooting stars.
With his promising debut in the Millî Lig, Doğan was signed by Fenerbahçe Istanbul along with the other young players Selim Soydan and Özer Kanra . The change led to a transfer dispute between Istanbulspor and Fenerbahçe and went up to the disciplinary committee of the Turkish Football Association . Fenerbahçe took advantage of the fact that Doğan was still listed as an amateur player at Istanbulspor and signed the player on favorable terms without reaching an agreement with Istanbulspor. Istanbulspor, meanwhile, referred to the high salary payments to Doğan in the course of the past season and, according to the legal situation, subsequently achieved professional status for the player. In order to forestall penalties from the football association, Fenerbahçe agreed with Istanbulspor about the change of Dogan. As a result, Istanbulspor withdrew its complaint to the association, but the Disciplinary Committee continued its investigation. The association's criminal court invited Doğan and demanded a game ban of up to three years. After trials that lasted about three weeks, Doğan was suspended for six months. Due to his suspension, Doğan did not play a competitive game until the second half of the season. During the winter break, Can Bartu left an important offensive force for AC Florence . Benefiting from this departure, Doğan made eleven league appearances and scored two goals. With his club he was runner-up in the 1961/62 season behind arch rivals Galatasaray Istanbul . After Kadri Aytaç, another offensive force, had left the club in the summer of 1962 , Doğan moved into the regular formation. He quickly established himself as a top performer and formed with Lefter Küçükandonyadis one of the most successful storm duos in the league. While Küçükandonyadis the 1962/63 season , in which Fenerbahçe was again runner-up behind Galatasaray, with 19 league goals was the most successful goalscorer of his team, Doğan was the second most successful with 17 goals. Because of his achievements, which he had shown in 1963, he was voted in the election of the daily Milliyet for the athlete of the year 1963 behind the cross-country runner Muharrem Dalkılıç in second place.
At the end of January 1964, he and his teammate Selim Soydan were drafted for military service and, with a few exceptions, would be absent from his team for the next two years. Since Doğan had injured his meniscus before he was called up, he had to undergo meniscus surgery in Vienna in March 1964 and was thus able to start his military service late in October 1964. He did his military service in the Turkish Navy in İskenderun and played during this time for İskenderun Denizgücü , the sports team of the Navy stationed in İskenderun. With a few exceptions approved by the military, in which he played for Fenerbahçe, he was not fully available to his team until the spring of 1965. During his abstinence, his team was able to win the Turkish championship in the 1963/64 and 1964/65 seasons . As a result, his team managed to defend its title in the championship, the first in the club's history. After his complete return, he remained more of a supplementary player for two seasons and only fought for a regular place during the 1967/68 season. He and his team ended the season 1966/67 with victories in the Balkan Cup and the Spor Toto Cup . In the 1967/68 season he and his team won the Turkish championship and the Turkish Cup for the third time . This made him one of the Fenerbahçes squad that won the first double in club history.
After the title defense in the championship and the cup was missed in the 1968/69 season, the championship could be won again in the 1969/70 season . In the three seasons between 1970 and 1973 Doğan lost out in the championship against arch-rivals Galatasaray, which was the first team to win this title three times in a row. During this time Doğan kept his regular place and wore the captain's armband at times. In his last season, the 1972/73 season, he wore the captain's armband in 26 of 30 league games. After this season, in which he and his team won the President's Cup and the Prime Minister's Cup , he ended his career on August 8, 1973 with a farewell game. In the farewell game Fenerbahçe played against arch rivals Beşiktaş Istanbul .
National team
Doğan began his national team career in March 1961 with a use for the Turkish U-18 national team. After four appearances for the Turkish U-18s, he began to play for the Turkish U-21 national team from 1962 .
In March 1963 he was nominated for the first time for the squad of the Turkish national team by national coach Bülent Eken as part of a qualifying match for the 1964 European Championship against the Italian national team and made his international debut in this match.
In 1965 he took part in the ECO-Cup with the national team and finished second with his team behind Iran . Two years later he won this cup with his team.
He made his last international match on November 26, 1967 during a preparatory game against the Iranian national team . He made a total of nine senior internationals for Turkey and scored one goal.
