1st Lig 1966/67

The 1st Lig 1967/68 was the tenth season of the highest Turkish league in men's football . It began on September 19, 1967 and ended on May 26, 1968.

In the 10th anniversary year of the Süper Lig was Fenerbahce Turkish soccer champion of season 1967/68. It was the fifth championship that Fenerbahçe won. The record champions had the best season in the club's history up to this point anyway. In the same season they were Turkish Cup winners and automatically Presidential Cup winners , as they were Turkish champions and cup winners at the same time.

Bursaspor and Mersin İdman Yurdu and Şekerspor were newcomers from the 2nd division . While Bursaspor and Mersin İY had risen as regular champions of the 2nd Lig at the beginning of the season , Şekerspor was re-accepted into the top Turkish league by court order. The background to this irregular admission was a legal dispute that lasted until May 1967 and went out in favor of Şekerspor. In the 1965/66 season the encounter Şekerspor- Beykozspor was canceled due to fan riots and attacks on the players of Şekerspor when the score was 1-0 for Şekerspor and the game was repeated. The rescheduling ended 1: 1. The Şekerspor officials protested against this replay and insisted that the game was interrupted by the Beykozspor fans and that they themselves had to be determined as the winner by decision. After Şekerspor was relegated at the end of the 1965/66 season with a point difference but with a significantly better goal difference, they lodged an appeal in court. They demanded that the game should be recognized as a victory, whereby one would have achieved relegation. After a year of trial, the court declared that Şekerspor had been the winner. The Turkish Football Association decided that, after having played in the second division for a year, Şekerspor would participate in the first division in addition to the regular promoted players.

Bursaspor was the most successful climber, they finished sixth at the end of the season. Mersin İdman Yurdu finished tenth in the midfield of the table, and Şekerspor saved himself from relegation because of the better goal difference.

Hacettepe GK , MKE Ankaragücü and Feriköy SK were relegated to the season.

Attendees

The champions of the last second division season Bursaspor , Mersin İdman Yurdu and Ankara Şekerspor joined the remaining 14 clubs from the previous season . While Şekerspor returned with the promotion one year in the 1st Lig, the promotion meant for Bursaspor and Mersin İdman Yurdu the first first division participation in their club history.
