Neuhofen an der Ybbs is a market town with 2951 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Amstetten district in Lower Austria , about ten kilometers south of Amstetten .

geography

Neuhofen an der Ybbs is located in the Mostviertel in the hill country of the Alpine foothills , north of the Hochkogel, directly at the foot of the Kornberg. Interestingly, despite part of the name, it is not directly due to the Ybbs . 20.02% of the community area is forested.

The municipality includes the following seven localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):

  • Amesleiten (413) including the village, Elzbach, Haagberg, castle settlement, Stopfenau and Wurmlehen
  • Kornberg (294) including Fachwinkl, Forsthub, Grub, Hörtling, Pöttenberg, Ungförten and Wies
  • Neuhofen an der Ybbs (1058) including Niederneuhofen and Schlickenreith
  • Perbersdorf (406) including Obertal, Trautmannsberg and Untertal
  • Scherbling (269) including Frieberstetten, Hörlesberg, Pfosendorf, Reichersdorf, Ried and Sonnhub
  • Schindau (368) including Abschleifing, Dippersdorf, Gaisstechen, Haidenlachmühle, Hub, Kothmühle, Kreiling, Lixing, Oberhömbach, Rampersdorf and Unterhömbach
  • Toberstetten (143) Brandstetten and Hiesbach

The community consists of the cadastral communities Amesleithen, Kornberg, Neuhofen an der Ybbs, Perbersdorf, Scherbling, Schindau and Toberstetten.

Also is Neuhofen Cradle of Austria called as 996 in the so-called Ostarrichi -Urkunde Austria was mentioned along with Neuhofen first documented. Emperor Otto III. gave the Bishop Gottschalk von Hagenau von Freising 950 hectares of land in the place called Neuhofen . Owned by the Hochstift Freising .

A post office was established on July 14, 1869.

Population development

According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 2,534 inhabitants. In 1991 the market town had 2,443 inhabitants, in 1981 2,248 and in 1971 2,015 inhabitants.

In 2001 there were 70 non-agricultural workplaces, agricultural and forestry operations 185 according to the 1999 survey. According to the 2001 census, the number of people in employment at home was 1,240. The employment rate in 2001 was 50.27%. In 2003 there were 300 unemployed people on average.
