Neville Lederle (born September 25, 1938 in Theunissen , Winburg , Orange Free State ; † May 17, 2019 ) was a South African racing car driver .

Career

When Neville Lederle scored his first point for the automobile world championship in sixth place in his first international race, the 1962 Grand Prix of South Africa , with a Lotus 18 , a great career in motorsport seemed possible. However, this success was to remain the only one.

In 1963 he celebrated several victories in the South African Formula 1 championship with a Lotus 21 before he had to pause for a year after a broken leg during training for the Rand 9-hour race. Although he was able to fully recover from his injury, he retired from racing to pursue entrepreneurial activities. Among other things, he opened a Volkswagen workshop.

He appeared twice on the racetracks when he took the aging Lotus 21 at the Rand Grand Prix in 1964 and tried unsuccessfully to qualify for the South African Grand Prix again in 1965 .
