Live and act

Nicolas Acht, who learned the lute and harpsichord from his earliest youth, studied at the Conservatories of Brussels and The Hague, and he expanded his knowledge in master classes at the Baroque Academy of Ambronnay and the Center de la Voix in Royaumont . He is one of the very few singers in the field of early music who, as historically handed down, accompanies each other singing on the various instruments.

Since 2004 he has appeared with well-known ensembles in the scene, such as L'Arpeggiata by Christina Pluhar , La Fenice, La Petite Bande , Ensemble Ausonia, Les Agrémens, Akadêmia, Les Talens Lyriques, Il Fondamento, Les Musiciens du Louvre , Il Seminario Musicale or the Le Poème Harmonique.

His personal interest in singing in the early 17th century led him to found his ensemble “Scherzi Musicali”. With this he recorded the opera “ Euridice ” by Giulio Caccini in 2009 , which has won numerous record awards (Joker de Crescendo, La Clef de ResMusica, Prelude Classics Award 2009, 4 étoiles du Monde de la Musique, 5 Diapasons). Another recording, “Dulcis Amor Iesu”, introduces partly unknown motets by Giovanni Felice Sances . Recordings of works by the Brussels baroque composer Joseph-Hector Fiocco and the first recording of the oldest known Roman opera La Catena d'Adona by Domenico Mazzocchi were made in 2010.

Nicolas Acht teaches the lute at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, he is visiting professor at the University of East Anglia and he is visiting professor at various master classes. At Operastudio Vlaanderen he conducted Euridice by Caccini (2006), La Catena d'Adona by Domenico Mazzocchi (2007), l'Incoronazione di Poppea by Claudio Monteverdi (2009).
