history
There is evidence of a prehistoric settlement in the municipality. Archaeological excavations in 1995 uncovered more than two thousand ceramic shards from the Roman Empire , as well as Roman glass.
Nortmoor was relocated in the High Middle Ages. The oldest document about Nortmoor is a document from 1411, which speaks of Focko Ukena's inheritance disputes with Ewinga. Since 1436 it can be proven that a pastor of the previous building of today's St. George Church settled down. The Uppingaburg is first mentioned in 1439 as Bawinghesburg. Today there is a manor house in its place.
Two outworks were in Nortmoor. On the one hand there was the Terwisch monastery farm, located near the Leda , which belonged to the Barthe monastery , and on the other hand the agricultural farm within the village, which was subordinate to the Johanniterkloster in Hasselt .
The village was initially divided into two peasant communities (Ostend and Westende).
In 1637 the village became very impoverished and the number of inhabitants was almost halved by a plague epidemic .
