Olaf Kühne

Olaf Kühne (born March 3, 1973 in Bochum ) is a German geographer and professor at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen at the chair of urban and regional development .

Live and act

Kühne studied geography , modern history , economics and geology at Saarland University . He graduated in 1996 and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD in geography . From 2003 to 2006 he did his doctorate in sociology at the Fernuni Hagen . In 2002 he completed his habilitation at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in the subject of geography, then moved back to Saarland University in 2006. From 2013 to 2016 he was Professor of Rural Areas and Regional Management at the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences. In 2016, Kühne was appointed a W3 professor for urban and regional development at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen .

From 2002 to 2003 Kühne worked in the “Nature Conservation Department” in the Saarland state government. From 2003 to 2006 he was a consultant for EU programs ( EAGGF program planning , LEADER ) and rural development. At the same time, from 2004 to 2006, he headed the inter-ministerial working group “ Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve ”, which set up this new reserve. In 2007 Kühne was appointed to the Saarland University, where he was endowed professor for "Sustainable Development" at the European Academy in Otzenhausen .

In his research he is heavily concerned with sociological aspects of the landscape. He published several specialist and textbooks, including in Springer VS (formerly VS Verlag für Sozialwissenschaften) and for the Saarland Institute for Regional Studies .
